Treasure Chest Title:   Interior Treasures

Sponsor: Docanos Creations

Artist:  Patty Rodgers
I grew up in Massachusetts and was influenced at an early age by the artist’s colony where I lived on Cape Cod.  I began taking private drawing and painting lessons at fifteen. Still life has always been a part of my subject and the interiors in which I work.  In the studio, the instructor would always “set up” objects, coloful materials, and sometimes a model.  When I went to Rhode Island School of Design, we worked from the same typs of set ups.  I constantly draw in my sketch book. I like to draw objects and places I see. My paintings have a constructed look, because now, I seem to take various drawings and put them together to form an interesting interior or exterior space.  Color is important to me.  I limit details so that the colors have a visual impact.  I use imaginary colors in favor of constructing the space. As I go about my day I realize that ordinary objects and places are such a part of my life. It’s this linear step by step path to what, I’m not sure, but I know every step is a building block to a goal.  The weeks go by, my children grow up, life just happens and I feel like I’m keeping record of it.
